How to Help Your Teeth
Your dentist and his helpers at Tooth Tales want you to have healthy teeth, the healthier the better. There are several things you can do to help us keep your teeth healthy.
- You know what it’s like to use soap and water every day to wash your hands and to take a bath or a shower. Well, your teeth need cleaning, too, because food you eat may leave little bits on your teeth where you can’t see them. So when you take that tooth-scrubber we call a toothbrush and put some toothpaste on it, you’re taking an important first step. Then you put that tooth-scrubber inside your mouth and wash away all that extra “stuff” that shouldn’t be there. Your Tooth Tales dentist will show you how to scrub just right. (We think it’s good to do this scrubbing twice a day—in the morning and just before bedtime.)
- Sometimes little bits of food get stuck in-between your teeth. You may not even know those little itsy bits are there. So that’s where dental floss comes in. Your Tooth Tales dentist will show you how to use it. It’s like a long, thin string. You pull a length of it out of the container. Then you carefully put the floss between each of your teeth to get rid of stuff that shouldn’t be there.
- What you eat and drink is very important in keeping your teeth healthy. Foods and drinks that have lots of sugar in them, if you use them too often, can make problems for your teeth. Your Tooth Tales dentist will explain what that’s all about.
- When you come in to see us at Tooth Tales, we may take pictures of your teeth so we can find out what’s going on. Sometimes even the dentist can’t tell there’s a problem just by asking you to go “Aaaaah”, so the pictures (we call them X-rays) show us both the outsides and insides of your teeth. We want to find any problems and take care of them as soon as possible, so you won’t have tooth problems that get any bigger.
- Always feel free to ask us any questions you have. Your questions are important to us and we will do our best to answer them and help you understand important information about your teeth.
